Why won't an older car VIN-decode in VinMotion or RapidLot?
Many older cars have VINs shorter than 17 characters. If this is the issue, have them add zeroes to the front of the VIN to make 17 characters. The vendor database covers the vast majority of US vehicles from 1981 to current shipping. Exotic brands, like Bentley and Ferrari, don't have the same level of coverage. They cover those types of vehicles for model year 2001 to current. The main reason for this is that there simply aren't many sources available to build out the full marketing specs for those older exotic models. If a vehicle won't VIN-decode, the information can be put in manually in both VinMotion and RapidLot. Escalate any issues for vehicles within the time frames listed above if they aren't decoding, so they can be checked. NOTE: VinMotion gets VIN data updates daily and is the best place to confirm.
