Why is my VIN not decoding?

If your VIN is not decoding in AutoStik, WebPlus or IVM, verify the following: 1) Does the VIN have 17 digits? All vehicles since 1981 should have a 17 digit VIN. 2) Is the VIN actually correct? Do not rely on dealer's DMS or polling source for the correct VIN - the dealer may have incorrectly typed in the VIN. Have the rep or dealer verify the VIN on the vehicle itself. 3) Is the vehicle earlier than the early to mid 2000s? Most of our VIN decode data is from the early to mid 2000s and later. 4) Is the vehicle a commercial vehicle? We do VIN decode some commercial vehicles, but most we do not. 5) Was the vehicle manufactured with the intent to sell in another country (example: Canada)? Other countries, such as Canada, have different VIN layouts and therefore we cannot decode the VIN, even if it has 17 digits. 6) Is the vehicle new (as in next year's models)? Our VIN Decoder works with information available from the manufacturer. If our VIN decoder doesn't have complete information yet, a VIN may not decode. For example: early 2018 models becoming available in 2017. 7) Is the VIN a re-issued VIN? Sometimes when vehicles are completely scrapped or recovered from theft, a new VIN is issued. These vehicles will not decode. If all else fails, you can escalate the ticket. We may not have the information available for the vehicle, even if all other points have been checked.
