How do I create a Comments Rule in VinMotion?

  1. In VinMotion, go to System Preferences -> Rules and select Settings and the Comment Rule page should load.
  2. Click the "Add" button (green + sign) to the right of 'System Preferences'. This will bring up the Add comment Rule page.
  3. "Start Date" defaults to today's date. If that is saved, the rule will apply immediately. The calendar button at the right of the box will allow you to select a different date. If another date is selected, it will apply on that date (so the date should be the day BEFORE the date the comment should appear on the website to make it into the overnight feeds).
  4. "End Date" - click the calendar button to the right of the field. Choose the date for the day BEFORE the websites should remove the comment. This is because the comment will be removed on the End Date and will go out in the feeds that night for many websites.
    1. NOTE: if this field is left blank, the rule will not end unless it is manually disabled.
  5. In the Description box, put in a brief description (or title) for the rule. This will display on the Comments Rules page to identify the rule. It does not go out in any feeds.
  6. Put the comment you want applied to the vehicles in the "Comment" box. There is a link to spell check the comment before saving. Once it is saved, it will go through as-is.
  7. The "Add Criteria" column on the right allows the dealer to specify which vehicles to which the rule will apply. If all vehicles should get the comment, select "All" in the Condition drop-down box and click Save to implement the rule.
    1. If you wish to limit the comment to New, Used, Certified, specific Makes, years, etc., just select the appropriate option(s) from the drop-down boxes on the page. Selected Criteria will appear in the Criteria box at the lower left of the page. Incorrect selections can be removed by clicking the 'X' on the Criteria name in the left-hand box.
  8. Review the selections to make sure they are correct, then click the black Save button at the lower right. If the Start Date selected is the current date, the rule will process immediately and the new comments will go out in the next scheduled feeds.
