How can I check to see if a vehicle has a Carfax report?
1.If someone contacts you saying there are vehicles they purchased carfax reports for and the reports are not showing on GetAuto or Powerlinks you need to get a list of the vins for those vehicles. 2.Check each vin with the carfax socket tool and document which the tool says should have reports: a.The carfax socket tool is actually a link. You will need to plug each vin into the link then refresh the link. It will either tell you No if there is no carfax report, or Yes, with a date, if there is a free report available. Plug the VIN into this link in place of the 3 Xs, http://socket.carfax.com:8080/?UID=C356579&REQUEST=INV&VIN=XXX&INV_DATE=Y b.While doing this, create a text document and name it carfax.txt. When you get a vehicle with a yes place it in the document with the date. Each vehicle should have its own line, and there should be no spaces in it. Each line of the text document should be entered like this: 2MEFM74WX3X697395,05/14/2009 , note that theres a comma between the vin and date and no spaces. See the attached document for a sample file. 3.Once that is finished you will need to run that carfax file through our carfax flag tool. You can find that at F:\Common\Public\Tech Support\SUPPORT TOOLS\GetAuto\CarFaxFlags.exe . Open that program, click Browse and select your carfax.txt file. Then click GO. The vins should appear in the column on the right side. After that click Exit. 4.The carfax links should appear in a few hours, but sometimes it can take overnight. Id recommend telling people theyll be there the next morning.
